Rum Village in South Bend

Postby Tree Magnet » Sun Jun 29, 2008 12:38 am

I had to somewhat unexpectedly go to South Bend today for a family related deal. Anyway, I had some downtime and talked my sister into going to Rum Village with me to check out their disc golf course. We played all 18 and she loved it. She's ready to buy some starter discs!

Anyway the course was nice - and seemed a bit easier overall than McCulloch. It was kind of hilly, which was fun... but it made it difficult to find some of the targets since I had never played there before and didn't know where they were. One major negative is that nearly all of their signs by the tees had either been worn out or vandalized or both. Only a couple on the entire course were legible. Made it REALLY hard for a new player to figure out where the targets were and where to go next.

Anyway... a fun day, but I think I like McColluch better. :D

Rum Village is one of the courses they played the Worlds on in 1996. If I remember correctly, Ken Climo shot 17 under par at Rum Village. :?

Has anyone played this course lately? I may be heading there in July for a tourney. The SBPD FOP is throwing a little tourney there. Doubles and $30 per team. I wonder if they have made improvements to it to make it easier to navigate for someone who has never been there.
