BSU Disc Golf Club Revival

Postby Jeremy » Fri Mar 20, 2009 3:36 pm

So, here's the scoop! (It's a big one...)

I would REALLY like to set up a meeting to talk about things like travel, some sort of league/scoring thing, organizing a night play, tourny... and whatever the hell else anyone can think of.

I want to see this club brought out of hibernation and do something with it. But the thing is, I can't do it by myself, like every other student I have other things that I have to do and am unable to single handedly put together everything that I'd like to see with this club. I had a hard time getting people to step up to help with leadership positions last fall and would really like to nip this in the butt so that we can start stuff up for this semester and then grow next fall!

So, I'd like to hear ideas from everyone as to what they want from the club and how it can happen. I'd also like to hear from everyone that is interested in picking up officer positions (they look great on resumes!)
Officer positions include (with kinda vague descriptions)
-Vice President, help organize meetings / events
-Secretary, organize / write email's, keep track of members

Also, I brought up club dues at the meeting last fall (which wasn't a popular idea) but it is something that I think could go along way with setting up trips, printed discs (t-shirts), so on... I also want to look into fundraising, maybe clean up after sport events, car washes and such (I don't particularly like the idea of holding a tournament for profit)
In which case, if dues were inacted we would need a Treasurer position to keep track of the club funds from due's / fundraising.

So.. I would like to hear from people about ideal meeting times and things you would like to see at the meeting. I have full support from Wishbone Gifts (They already give ALL club members 20% off discs) for whatever is needed for a meeting. I also have an idea for a logo/website competition - pretty much the best designs win free disc golf stuff / paid trip.. something!

Try and spread this message around to anyone interested so we can get this meeting in the works.

For any comments/ ideas/ suggestions PLEASE get ahold of me and let me know! This is YOUR club as much as mine! I can be gotten ahold of at jbryson@bsu.edu or on facebook (my full name is jeremy bryson)

I know this was pretty lengthy but I thank you for reading it and being involved!

How did the revival go? I haven't heard anything about it. I was a little to busy Wednesday to come but maybe this coming one I will make it.

Jeremy, if you spread the word around about night disc golf I will def. do the same. I was going to buy enough LED lights for disc and sell them the night people come out to play in the night event. I have been mentioning night disc golf myself and believe it would attract a lot of people. The park closes at 11 p.m., which is enough time to play, but it might be possible to arrange something with the parks dept. to stay out later. Just let me know if you're interested in coordinating something. I am def. going to play night golf when the weather holds up.

kirk said that the LED light suck. you would be better off with the glow discs. Night golf would be awesome but gotta watch out for creepers.

I DEFINITELY want to get some nite golf going! Not sure how much of a club event it would be, but it doesn't really matter as long as people are out playing! Hopefully I get a little better turnout this wednesday nite (9pm TC200D hint hint) and i'm sure people will be interested!
But ya, as Wes says, we hear the led's kinda suck... but i'm sure it would be easier than trying to get glow discs for everyone. I would also want to put some glo sticks on the baskets, but that would be easy to take care of.
so basically, we can all play disc golf at nite whenever the hell we want, i'd play on tuesday nites or weekend nites for sure.

The LED lights are absolutely horrible... don't waste your money and destroy a good disc.

I have 4 Innova glow discs, but have not had the chance to try them out... I have a Sidewinder, Valk, Roc, and Aviar.
