Muncie Disc Golf Club,

First, I don't think I have met any of you folks, so let me first introduce myself. I am John Cavaletto and the current PDGA Indiana State Coordinator. I live around Brookston, IN and work at Purdue University. I am extremely fortunate to have my own private course, Red-Tail Ravine, as well as a good friend, Tom Woods, that lives right across the road from me who also has his own private course, Valley View. Tom and I run events at France Park in Logansport.

I know that you have talked with Allen Pier a bit and I wanted to touch base with you as well. Mostly wanting to get a feel for events the club is planning to hold in 2010. I'd also like to hear your thoughts about where you would like to see Muncie disc golf go in relation to disc golf in Indiana. Any other information you would like to share about your club, Indiana disc golf, etc., please do so.

If you are not aware, we have a message board on Yahoo that gets some use as well. Within Groups, IndianaDiscGolfers. You will need to be approved to join (we used to get a lot of spam!), but it only takes a day. I moderate that board and check it pretty regularly.

If you would like to contact me directly (dg19070@yahoo.com or email me for my home number).

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you,
John

Hi John,my name is Marc Stone,10091.We are planning 4 tournaments this year. March,June,September, and December. The March tournament we are hoping to raise some money for the local food bank.
I would like our club to become half as successful as the Peru club. We currently have 10 members. It has been kind of slow going thus far. There are a lot of new golfers around here that are shy about playing tournaments and getting involved in the club. We currently have around $900 in our funds. We would eventually like to talk the park board into another course in Delaware County.
Thanks for taking the time to communicate with us. Hope to meet you in the near future.

Marc,

Thanks for the information about the happenings in Muncie. Reaching that critical mass of golfers is a constant challenge for a lot of clubs. If most of us could be half as successful as Peru, I think we would be in good shape.

Allen Pier has mentioned that you folks are interested in being involved with organized Indiana disc golf. As I am sure that you are aware, we currently have both the Indiana Summer Series and the Fall Series. All of the summer series events are PDGA sanctioned (tier level dependent upon the host club) and all of the fall series events are unsanctioned. Muncie was mentioned as a club that might be interested in being involved. To that effect, I would urge you folks to identify one "big" event of yours that we really try to promote on the Indiana schedule for 2010. It doesn't have to be PDGA sanctioned, but I think it might help with exposure.

Folks from Lafayette, IN will be running a sanctioned event in April and Valpo will be running one in early May. If all goes well with those events in 2010, we will be looking to add them to one of the series. Things such as player turnout and the host club's organization at running the event will be factors in that decision. If Muncie could make something happen to this same effect, it would put you folks in the mix as we evaluate changes for 2011. I know that there is interest from folks in Marion, but I don't think they quite have the club structure in place yet.

Give this some thought and discussion. At the very least let me know the dates of your events once you get that settled.

Summer Tournament

Postby Jeremy » Sun Mar 21, 2010 9:58 pm

So, With my recent discovery that i'll actually be around this summer for once I started thinkin about getting ready for the tournament.
I think this would be a good place to start organizing things such as sponsorships, advertising, course planning and such. This could also help with club members that would like to help out that aren't normally involved so it won't be a couple of people carrying the load, Which I know can be pretty taxing.

For those that have been thinking / working on this already, where are we at? To make sure I got it straight, We need to set up a tournament that meets some requirements such as people showing up and good feedback to qualify for a pdga sanctioned event (which is the ultimate goal)

If we have a set date and such I could start getting the word out through forums, calendars, signs and so forth. I feel like its not to early to start putting it out there if we want a large turn-out.

So where are we at so far? :D

As far as big events go, I think the biggest has been the BSU Halloween Extravaganza... I think we could put on something bigger during this summer!

I was wanting to talk to you about some fliers ,and such for the tournament. If you could make some up, we could pay you out of club funds for material and your time.
I would like to have a club meeting some Thursday, before or after league, to discuss some things about the tournament.
